The name for this 11th century fort seems to have originated from the Telugu words ‘Golla’ and ‘Konda’, which translates to ‘Shepherd's Hill’. The Golconda Fort boasts of unique acoustics – wherein the sound of a handclap at the entrance gate can be heard even at the highest point of the fort, which is atop a hill.
